Rev. Vernon Williams

Assistant Pastor

Rev. Vernon Williams is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri at Rolla in 1982 and a Master of Divinity degree from the New Brunswick Theological Seminary in 2010.

Rev. Williams worked for the Anheuser-Busch Cos., Inc. for 18 years. He was promoted to the position of resident engineer of the company’s Newark, NJ plant bringing he and his wife back to the New Jersey area. Vernon reunited with Fountain Baptist Church upon his return where he accepted his calling to the ministry.

Rev. Williams resigned his position in corporate America and accepted the position of Assistant to the Pastor of the Fountain Baptist Church on a fulltime basis. Currently Rev. Williams serves as the Assistant Pastor of the Fountain Baptist Church, performing administrative, teaching, preaching and counseling duties.

Rev. Williams represents Fountain on the Summit Interfaith Council, where he held positions of secretary, treasurer, vice-president, and president from 2021-2023. In addition, he is a founding member of The Council’s Anti-Racism Committee. In this capacity, Rev. Williams has been an advocate for social justice and a strong community voice against racism. He co-convenes The Council’s subcommittee on policing, where he meets with the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and City Council members to improve how the Summit Police Department interacts with residents and commuters of color. Rev. Williams also co-leads the church’s Social Justice Ministry.

Rev. Williams has recently been appointed to the national board of Family Promise and is an advocate of the unhoused in Summit.

Rev. Vernon Williams is married to Marla Williams and they have one son, Isaiah.
